Performing Arts

The Performing Arts department seeks to provide a lively, practical and enjoyable curriculum with a wide range of activities and opportunities outside of lessons to extend and enrich students’ experiences. The Performing Arts department encompasses Drama, Music and Dance.

At Key Stage 3 students follow an exciting curriculum, learning the basic skills in each art form. Areas of study include the language of choreography in dance, dramatic devices such as hot seating and thought tracking in drama, developing compositional skills and learning about the structure of the orchestra in music.

At Key Stage 4, in Years 10  and 11, students have the opportunity to study on a range of courses including GCSE Music, OCR Drama, and BTEC L2 Dance.

Extra-curricular activities are a prominent feature of the department. Among these there are Orchestra, a variety of different choirs for all students, Advanced College Singers, Drama Club, Musical Theatre, Boys Group College Choir and Street Dance. The students perform regularly in concerts throughout the year.  In the Summer Town, we hold a Performing Arts Competition for all students. with the winners performing in our ShowCase Concert in May.  The department also produces reguarlar productions.  These have included:  Bugsy Malone, The Lion King, Joseph and his Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat to name but a few.
